For my zine
, I want to focus on the imagery of my childhood. I want my zine to be small yet compact with all of the senses. I want the viewer to smell my mothers homemade apple pie and feel the dust of sidewalk chalk on their fingers. I hope that this zine puts the viewer in my Mary Jane shoes as they walk through my childhood with me. As I reflect on the early, formative years of my life, I am overwhelmed with the sweetest memories. A time where I didn’t know any pain beyond a scraped knee or loose tooth. A time shaded with oblivion of the outside world. I hope to convey this overall feeling of innocence within my zine. To do this, I am going to put myself in my 3year old - 5 year old mindset: remembering what was important to me, what I daydreamed about, what made me smile. In high school, I wrote a poem about these early years of my life. There was a ton of imagery packed into that small poem, so I am going to turn to it for inspiration. I have yet to decide if I will be including text within this zine. If I do, I am planning on including lines from this poem, making the zine more personal. I also plan to make a few interactive pages (coloring book, diary, etc.), since I want it to have a very childlike feel. I am super excited to explore illustrator and photoshop more to create cohesive pieces for this project.
