Artist Statement
Since the time I could hold a crayon, I have been creating art. I have always filled my entire life with
color: doodling on each piece of paper that comes my way, covering my clothes in paint and stitched
yarn, and ruining my parents walls with sharpie designs. Over the years, my artistic style and area of
focus has changed and developed. I started my creative adventure honing
in on realism. I then shifted my energy into creating pop art inspired pieces.
Over the past few years, I have started
combining both of these styles to create
cohesive yet chaotic fusion paintings.
I tend to focus on human body
parts: tongues, kneecaps, fingernails:
the less acknowledged features of
our strange bodies. I also use a lot of
line work and color blocking in my
paintings, creating a contrast of both
realism and pop art in my work.
Recently, I started exploring the
world of collage, using photographs
that had previously been taped to my
room walls and newsprint. My
collages are bright, busy, and filled
with life. When collaging, I continue
to contrast photographs of human
faces and bodies with pieces of
colored paper. This reflects my
paintings that are a mix two very different
artistic styles. I look forward to expanding my
horizons in the world of digital art. I am eager
to explore my creativity beyond a stretched
canvas. I want to continue focusing on human
features and line work, but am open to
developing my direction and finding new styles
and areas of concentration that
speak to me.
